OAU Saga: The Virtual Rescue

by Towobola Damilola (Toblan Spice)

The crow of a cock woke me to reality from a dream of resumption. I stretched and dragged myself out of bed with a short prayer; I actually murmured the few words. I had my small old radio all by my side wobbling as I dozed off the night after a broadcast with high hope of getting pleasant news to elate me from boredom of engulfed home alone.

An industrial revolt had struck my college and we were sent home for what they termed safety rather than cowardice. The days of waiting reminded me of the biblical Israelis sojourn in the desert; lost, tired and weary. Alas, the wait was more than that of the Isreali as it lasted more than a fold; about three chicken hatched chicks. It was getting much more devastating as I worried daily until one faithful night Virtual Games came to the rescue.

Least I forgot I am not a snob but was more dedicated to exploration which Edison Software Development Centre had in stock; I forgo the green bottles and the glass mugs overflowing with foams.

The Virtual space was a consolation from my school troubles. Explosion in the number of creative new games that my mobile facilitated was a key to my immense learning exposure.  My quest knew no bounds making me pedagogic and the experience was enthralling with the advanced location sensing capabilities such as the GPS Satellite Positioning in my mobile which transcended place and time.

The engaging and motivation from the game made learning a fun like adventure. Adventure because it was a combination of action, historical and role playing experience. The virtual visit to the museum was fascinating and near-reality as I saw lots of ancient artifacts. Yes, the opportunity to pick a role and explore the different possibilities the world affords for my career was quite exciting. (Chuckles) I avoided the role of a surgeon because of the fear that buckled in me holding a surgical knife like Ben Carson.

My experience was fun; my days of waiting for Mr. President’s intervention sprouted with my newly discovered companion in the virtual Space. The nearest future will be hugely electrifying when location-based games will contribute to Knowledge in my Country. Welcome to the Senate Tower Prof. Elujoba

The Internet: A hub of Goodies.

The world is moving from a physical world to a digital world, and the Internet is in many ways a gateway to the world of globalization. The internet can be of huge benefit to the individual and his environment. A click gives you the needed information, news and gossip at your fingertips.

The internet has also become a cash cow for people who have keyed into the advantageous use of the internet. For Instance blogging, affiliate marketing etc. The very origin of the Internet is strongly linked to education, as it was in universities and research institutes that electronic networks were initially developed. These networks have since evolved from the sharing of research findings among scientists and scholars to access to libraries, schools, and universities worldwide. Not only can one find interesting reference material and valuable resources, but increasingly one can also download books and journals, the Internet thus providing a wealth of knowledge at ones finger tips.

The Internet provides essential tools to work out a convenient and economical itinerary for a trip we may be planning and helps us make the necessary bookings. With a little effort, we can look up phone numbers, addresses, and various ways to get to our intended destination.

AUTOMATION AS A PRODUCT OF TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT

The growth of technology cannot be deterred in this dispensation where world classed advancement is the major focus of countries around the globe. Because of technology, so many individuals, companies and nations around the globe have resorted to seeking easier and faster means of going about their lives. A long time ago, there was the use of the abacus as a counting process but with time this went extinct with the advent of computers and today with numerous other means; we can precisely talk about technology and the idea of automation.

Many of us don’t really come to terms with the term automation but we would most likely come to terms with the words: boilers, heat treating ovens, telephone networks, steering and a host of other means but the basic truth is that all of these are all automation processes.

Automation involves the use of various controlling systems for the purpose of operating so many processes in many locations. A practical example of such is the Asphalt mixing plant which is an automated mixing facility which involves systems that work in tandem with sensors, actuators and other control elements for technical processes. Most of the activities in the facility involve situations where the operator can easily acknowledge what is happening in the environs as he uses the buttons and slide levers which could be used to switch on and off the facility processes.

Automation is derived from the word “automatic” and the interesting thing about automation is that it is achieved either through electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical devices and computers. Over the years, companies around the globe have employed the use of both devices and computers for easier performance. One major company that has taken up the task of enlightening people about the concept of automation, especially in the aspect of computer servers and software is the Edison Software Development Centre which specializes in testing and internalizing the engineering and re-engineering of their works. They have overtime built a niche for their company in the aspect of automated technology.

Furthermore, many of us use the automated appliances in our homes and work place without knowing it does exist there. Some of them include the thermostat cooling systems which apply both the electrical and mechanical means of automation. It also accrues to heaters and workplaces where you find elevators. The telecommunication industry, aircraft and ATM machines make use of the process of automation too.

Automation is an age concept that has passed from centuries down and it has been reiterated with the advent of sophisticated means of transportation and communication. The renaissance of technology has brought automation to the lime light by fusing it in the aspect of industrialization, engineering and a host of other working fields. These days, it is hard to see a place where you won’t find automated facilities.

Conclusively, in a matter of years from now automation would take the place of human actions especially with the recent news of having a car that navigates without a driver. It is an evergreen process that would pass from generations to generations.
